Frequently Asked Questions
So, what do you do? What is your project?
Hi! Well, are a small team that aims to create an app that makes contributing to society fun and easy. We do this by using gamification elements such as XP points, leaderboards, and avatars, to name a few. We are creating an extremely user-friendly app that streamlines contribution to society while also providing some immediate satisfaction. We have also opened our institute in Slovenia, named “Inštitut Greenie”, Institute for Digital Accessibility of Sustainable Initiatives (slovene translation: Greenie – Inštitut za digitalno dostopnost trajnostnih iniciativ).
How did you come up with the idea?
The idea came to Nina Planinšek because she started volunteering in Norway during an Erasmus Exchange. We were diving for trash, bicycles, and boat batteries in the Oslo fjord, and it was such a profound experience. It cured my social anxiety, gave me a purpose, and introduced me to incredibly wonderful friends and a supportive community. But I couldn’t believe that there weren’t more people volunteering. What was happening? Was there a problem with the marketing channels? How were the volunteering opportunities marketed, and what do people even want?
What do you think people need to know about you, Nina?
Everyone who knows me will tell you about my personal connection to the environment and the fire within me, as I see saving the Earth as a serious personal responsibility and the reason I live today. My main goal is for everyone to experience gratification through socially beneficial work and consistently help the world. I believe volunteering is one of the extremely important activities if we want to stop global warming. At the same time, this kind of work provides immense benefits to each individual, empowering them and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make better decisions for themselves and society. Volunteering improves the standard of living.
You mentioned that you lead a team. Maybe you can introduce them for a bit!
Of course! I’d love to! Our team is a multinational one and a two-women show. I’m excited to introduce Betti, a key member of our management team.
Bettina Szabo is and extremely hard-working Hungarian. Her passion for sustainability began during her Biology studies at Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary. She then pursued a master’s in Human Ecology, gaining interdisciplinary knowledge on social, ecological, political, and economic aspects of the crisis. During her time at the University of Oslo, Betti studied Norwegian green actions and we connected over our shared passion for sustainability. Betti’s experience includes working with the LEO charity organization and representing about 100 volunteers as a Vice President.
Where do you see the project going now? What are the next steps?
Oh, there is so much. I don’t even know where to begin. Well… we were recently accepted into the Impact HUB incubator, based right here in Ljubljana. This incubation will last for about a year, under the mentorship of, the one and only, Jan Peloza and is conducted under the Social Impact Award. We aim to win the jury award by providing the best pitch possible that will make their jaws drop—hopefully, haha. Though the main reason we applied for this incubator is to get project cooperation with the University of Ljubljana, as this is where we want to launch the app in spring 2025.
Where can people find you if they want to know more?
